But first, they need to find the right boat, refit it, outfit for long range cruising, gain experience with coastal cruising and then venture off-shore into the Caribbean. Volume I covers research in choosing the right boat to live aboard while exploring the world. They visit boat shows and charter, finally finding a 1975 Fisher 37 that they name Vicarious. Amateur sailors with limited experience, they learn from their mistakes along the way.

VOLUME 3: OUTFITTING FOR LONG RANGE CRUISING

After doing an extensive reft, Spencer and Kathleen outfit their vessel for long range cruising. This volume overs a complete re-power, installing a water maker, solar panels, diesel generator, wind generator, washer/dryer, life raft, EPIRB, ditch bag and much more. Their year long cruise from Maine to Grenada and back was a test of all the equipment they installed.

After outfitting their vessel for long range cruising, Spencer and Kathleen head off up the east coast of the U.S. This volume covers their cruise from Maine to Miami including the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).
