However there was a key feature that needed to be integrated into the build- the boat needed to be handicapped accessible to accommodate Elizabeth who has Marfans Syndrome. This accommodation evolved into an obsession, which eventually took its toll on this American family.

Gene and his wife, Josie sail their 32 foot Pearson Vanguard sloop, "Discubridor" ("Discoverer") 10,000 miles from San Diego, CA south along the Mexican and Central American coast to Costa Rica, then offshore to the legendary, uninhabited Cocos Island.
