Explore its active volcanos and spectacular geysers as you travel down island to the capital, Wellington. From there, you’ll sail down the coast exploring the South Island’s improbable rock formations. Then it’s on to the Southern Alps and glaciers, and the deep inlets of Fjordland. This region stood in for mythical Middle Earth in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” films. Sailing further south you visit the cities of Queenstown and Christchurch. You’ll learn about the French colonists who almost made New Zealand a French territory. Your voyage concludes at New Zealand’s southern extremity in the beautiful region of Dunedin and the Catlins.
