Soundings - Faith in an ill-fated ship | Portland Press Herald - Risking it all on an act of faith

Raw Faith: A Family SagaRaw Faith: A Family Saga from SailFlix on Vimeo.

A film by Gregory Roscoe.
In 1997, the McKay family- George, JoAnn, Elizabeth, Aaron, Tom and Rob made the decision to build a three masted Galleon as a way for the family to voyage and see new places. However there was a key feature that needed to be integrated into the build- the boat needed to be handicapped accessible to accommodate Elizabeth who has Marfans Syndrome.

This accommodation evolved into a mission to bring accessible sailing to others. In 1998, the family started construction down east in Addison, Maine. Building with his three sons, George McKay built RawFaith over four years. She was 118 feet long, 26 feet wide and weighed 300 tons. She was launched August 3, 2003. After a series of adventures, shake down cruises and challenges which included dismastings and family breakdowns, RawFaith was lost at sea in December 2010. This is a family saga told through the lens of a man, a mission and a boat.
